Palate Press: The Online Wine Magazine by Bloggers

Editor's Note: Palate Press is an online magazine that features wine writers from all walks of life. From citizen bloggers to big wig writers, it's packed with stories from wines across the globe. What's unique about PP is its editorial process. Bloggers are an independent bunch and tend to stay clear from someone telling them what stays or goes before publication. Therefore, the mere hint of an editor is typically shunned before the 3 syllables escape one's lips. Yet PP has thrived with its editorial review, allowing any writer to submit their article as long as they're open to editorial criticism. We want to congratulate founder, David Honig, and his crew for putting in the hard work, sweat and elbow grease it's taken to get this ...

Tool For Wine Bloggers: An Interview with Chris Golda, Co-Founder of Backtype

Recently, we were asked to provide more information on a blogging tool called Backtype. Backtype is a conversational search engine that indexes and connects conversations from blogs, social networks and other social media, whereby allowing us to find, follow and share comments. In that same article, we also received a very considerate invitation from the co-founder of Backtype, Chris Golda, to provide a detailed explanation of this incredible powerful tool. Now we have much greater ambition for BackType, and we're working on many new products and services. How can a wine blogger effectively use Backtype? We offer a collection of widgets and plugins related to comments that bloggers may be ...

Hardy Wallace of Dirty South Wine on Wine Blogging

dirty-ii 1. Why do you feel wine blogging is not a fad? or is it? Wine has always encouraged people to discuss, write, and share stories of their wine experiences with others.  Blogging allows people to easily do this on a large scale with with virtually no overhead.  People aren't going to stop communicating about wine.  Will the medium evolve, change, and shift?  Sure.  But  just as the web has matured, wine blogging will do the same thing. 2. What is one thing wine blogs get right? Partnership and cooperation.  There isn't internal competition between wine blogs for market share, ad revenue, or even readers. Bloggers often link to other blogs in their posts, communicate through Twitter, on message boards, and are constantly cooperating and interacting.  Can you imagine CNN and Fox News ...

By definition, a fad is temporary. I don't think anyone with half a brain thinks wine blogs are temporary. There are too many people with too much passion for them to be temporary. They aren't going away. My blog isn't going anywhere. 2. What message do you have for wine PR companies as far as interacting with blogs? Treat us just like you would any other media outlet -- ...

One Wine Dude Answers our Questions

If you want to participate, just answer the questions listed in this post and we'll get your response up on the site right away! Cheers, Ryan Why do you feel wine blogging is not a fad? or is it? It's not a fad. Nothing with real passion behind it is a fad.  The medium may evolve and change, but at it's heart wine blogging is wine media by & for the masses. Once something like that has been liberated, it cannot again become contained. What is one thing wine blogs get right? Passion. What is one thing that wine blogs get wrong or need to improve? It needs to be more than what you drank last night. Have a ...
