Almost 1,000 Active Wine Blogs Have Been Registered!

Having just come back from the American Wine Bloggers Conference held in Santa Rosa, California, where wine bloggers across North America gathered together in an effort to better both the wine blogging field and the wine trade in general, it is with great pride that we announce our growing numbers. To date, we have reached 952 wine blogs, ranging in style, location, type and subject matter. As you will readily see, almost half of all blogs registered on Wineblogger.info are written in English. And of those, Regional and General Wine blogs take center stage with approximately 200 sites registered. Interestingly, blogs written in French are the second most registered wine blogs, yet seem to be the least represented in major wine networks like the European Wine Bloggers Conference and the Open Wine Consortium. What ...

The People’s Wine Press

revolutionary war and wineHave you ever found a quote that completely and utterly summed up a feeling that you've had but you couldn't necessarily put it into words? After Robert Parker's crack at the wine blogging industry last week, I've had a ball of frustration inside me sitting idle without the appropriate words to describe its composition. Sticky, thick and irrational, I felt bound by my nervous system, encapsulating my logic, until now. Over the past few weeks, I've been enthralled by Jeff Shaara's book, "Rise to Rebellion", giving words, feelings and much needed context to a war I vaguely understood in high school textbooks: The Revolutionary War. Nearing the end of the book, Benjamin Franklin, physically worn from years of fighting an uphill intellectual battle over the freedom of the colonists  from English ...

II Annual European Wine Blogger Conference in Lisbon, Portugal

The second edition of the European Wine Bloggers Conference (EWBC) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, between the 30th of October to the 1st of November 2009. Bringing together bloggers of all backgrounds including: winemakers, wine writers, marketers, retailers and distributors from around the world, this year’s conference will address, “The Future of the Social Wine Brand”. The 2008 conference, in La Rioja, Spain, was the first international event for Wine Bloggers and the first of a growing series of conferences and events under the “Wine Bloggers Conference” banner. In addition to the annual European event, there is also an annual US event based in California and plans to include a series of local events beginning in 2009 and 2010. Our goal is to create a network of wine bloggers ...

What is Wine Blogging?

(Previously Published in La Rioja Alta's Boletín Informativo de Invierno 2009) It was in 1975 that a young wine lover wanting to express his views on wine searched for the easiest and most effective way to publish his thoughts. Being that computers were reserved for colleges and research institutions, he accepted a loan from his mother and began a small newsletter that he hand-mailed to a list of wine lovers he culled from local wine retail mailing lists. His goal was simple: to be a consumer advocate for wine lovers and an independent voice. His name is Robert Parker. Today young wine lovers enamored with the mystery and beauty of wine are also reaching out for the cheapest and easiest method of publishing their thoughts on the beverage that has gripped our imaginations since Roman times. The internet today provides tools, free of ...

II Annual European Wine Blogger Conference: Collating Potential Interest from Wine Bloggers

logo_winebloggerGreetings Wine Bloggers! As the New Year has finally dawned, the time has come for us to think about new and exciting events in 2009. One such event is the European Wine Bloggers Conference. However, before we break the big news, we are trying to get some initial feedback regarding the event. We would love to know how many of you would be interested in attending our conference in mid June in Italy? Mind you, we aren't looking for solid commitments here, just need some feedback to help us make some final decisions in the planning process. In addition, we kindly request that you either pass this message on to other wine bloggers, and/or post this question on your blog, if you tend to attract many wine bloggers to your site. The more wine bloggers we reach, the better idea we have as to ...

Wine Blogger Survey Results

With the upcoming American Wine Bloggers Conference, it seems appropriate to look at who we are. Currently, we're working on a project that needed some stats, and I know lot's of you the wine bloggers are interested in the results. And considering that we're not professional surveyers, unable to professionally analyze the results, we kept the first survey simple and straightforward. However, I am very interested in the New Year of conducting a survey with a more complex set of questions that would allow us to look in more depth at the region and influenc, but that's for another day. On the other hand, leave a comment on this post if you want to help out putting it together. I have a 1yr contract on my SurveyMonkey account paid for, and I'll let anyone out there ...
